Refuge for Women’s National Board of Directors has approved expansion into 3 new cities; Huntington Beach, California, Pensacola, Florida, and Louisville, Kentucky will open safe houses to serve women who are survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The foundational work is progressively advancing at each location. A local Board of Directors is being organized, and they are identifying individuals passionate about seeing this happen in their community. It will take 12-18 months to train staff, prepare a home, and gather the necessary resources until the first resident is served. If you want to become involved or receive updates, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to ked.frank@refugeforwomen.org
WHY: 5,748 human trafficking cases were reported in 2016*, and there exists only an estimated 700 beds across the nation for victims of trafficking. In response, Refuge for Women’s goal is to provide 100 beds across 10 states by the year 2020. We are mobilizing to serve more victims of sexual trafficking. Our strategical expanse across the nation creates a network of safe-passage for women to escape their offenders and dangerous environments. Join us in responding to this urgent need.
