We are excited to announce that Abby Germer has been named the new City Director at the Refuge for Women North Texas location! Abby is currently the Program Director at the safe house in North Texas and is beginning the transition to this new position. Today's post is a letter from Abby:
Dear Refuge for Women North Texas Community,
First, thank you so much for all you do. Refuge for Women North Texas is what it is today because of the prayers and support from you all being the hands and feet of Jesus. Every morning at the safe house we have morning devotional and we close out by going around and sharing what we are grateful for. More often than not, someone always says they are grateful for the people they don't even know that have supported this ministry in some way so we (staff and residents) can experience life change through Jesus Christ.
I am very excited to transition into the role of City Director. I will never forget the day we sat in the back room of a coffee shop in July of 2015 with a small group of volunteers that had a dream in our hearts and a mustard seed of faith that God wanted to do something here in North Texas. From there, I had the opportunity to serve on the board, participated in fundraising events, and was part of a team that saw God do some pretty incredible things to open the doors to our safe house. We took in our first resident in December of 2016 and I came on staff as Program Director in April of 2017. Working in the safe house has been a true gift. Walking alongside the residents and seeing first hand God change lives has reminded me how basic the gospel really is… to love God and love others well.
My word for the year is satisfy. The definition of that word is: “to meet the expectations, needs or desires of someone”. I know that came from the Lord as He alone can satisfy. He also knew what the heart mission for me would be this year: to continue to be a part of the community here in North Texas so we can continue to satisfy the needs of the broken. I have a dream to have not only one safe house here in North Texas but two. The need is out there, I have seen that first hand. Together, we can make an eternal difference in the lives of others. We have the privilege to change others eternities forever. And at the end of the day, when all is said and done, that is the only thing that will matter.
Thank you again for all you have done so far. We are looking forward to 2018 to see what all God has for us! Please continue to pray for RFWNTX everyday as we continue to lock arms as a community to be the light!
