Running can take many different forms: hitting the pavement, running away, sprinting towards, running for... You can sprint towards the future and bypass the present, or you can run from your past and forget the lessons. When I stopped running from God and began sprinting towards Jesus Christ, He transformed my idol of running into an intimate retreat of focus and prayer with the Holy Spirit. However, I recently felt convicted that there was more I could be doing for our King through the gift of running.
God awoke this conviction in me July 4th of this year, when I celebrated one of the dearest relationships with which He has blessed me. As I crossed the finish line at the Bluegrass 10,000 with the lady I have been mentoring through the Refuge for Women ministry, we celebrated many things: her first race, her impending graduation from the program, the power of redemption, and a friendship that has done nothing less than glorify God through growth, community and love. In the moments of side-cramps, for 10,000 steps we encouraged each other, "For the women!", and it became evidently clear how little the suffering at hand compares to the women who are trapped in the sex industry. I knew the challenge the Lord had given me months before had to be accepted: to run 26.2 miles for the sake of women in the sex industry. I joined a group of servants who will be running the Rock N' Roll Marathon in Las Vegas, NV on November 17th as part of Team Refuge, raising awareness through sneakers, along with financial and prayer support.
Refuge for Women is a ministry that beats in alignment with God's heart for the sex industry. It has changed my life; I cannot comprehend the lives that are being resurrected as God sends the ministry outward. With a second house in KY and new houses being established in Columbus, OH, and Las Vegas, NV, the ministry is growing and needs support! One way that you can support this ministry is by walking, jogging or running! The 3rd Annual Refuge for Women 5K race will be held on Saturday September 14th, with race start at 8am at Southland Christian Church. The cost is $25 pre-race or $30 the day of the race. Please visit www.refugeforwomen.org for more information and to register! Thank you for considering a partnership with RFM through this race, your financial support, and most importantly, prayer!
