Our family has been a part of the Refuge For Women way before the original farmhouse was ever completed. This is a ministry that we had been praying would start up to reach the needs of women who have been hurt, abused, and mislead by “the industry”. From those beginning prayer stages, to the demolition and rebuilding of the beautiful home God provided, and through the continued support and prayers over these brave and remarkable women, our family has been blessed to be a part of something so wonderful. To me, the Refuge For Women means hope, love, and grace. Hearing all the stories of lives being changed and healed lets me know that God is in this and we will always do what we can to help in any way possible.
Earlier this year I saw another way to support this ministry and that was through our casual Friday program at work. I work for an amazing company that takes casual Friday’s to the next level. Each month, a different charity is chosen and the employees who want to wear casual clothes in on a Friday donate $4. I nominated the Refuge for Women and they got the month of July! So every Friday in July we collected $4 from every person who wore jeans to work and donated all of it to the Refuge For Women. It turned out to be a pretty good donation that I know God used to change lives. Since I was the one who nominated them, people I work with asked me what the charity was about which gave me the opportunity to share with them and get them connected to it. It definitely made Friday’s more exciting knowing that all the money raised was going directly to helping these women!
I don’t know what other companies do out there but I think this is a great way to not only build comradery at your workplace, but also to do something for the greater good. So talk it up at work and look for ways that your company can help, it’s easier than you think!
